ICAS Spelling Bee assesses spelling in four contexts: Dictation, Rules & Conventions, Proofreading, and Error Correction. Words range from simple, frequently used terms to technical words with difficult patterns.
Types of Spelling Knowledge
Words are organized by four types of knowledge: Visual (orthographical), Phonological (sound-letter relationships), Morphemic (word families), and Etymological (word origins and derivations).
Range of Difficulty
Papers contain words of varying difficulty, including grammatical words, homophones, vowel/consonant trigraphs, double consonants, multiple affixes, and foreign words like pizza or garage.
