Textual Aspects

Students read a variety of texts to narrate, describe, explain, argue, persuade, and review. Focus areas include Text Comprehension, Writer’s craft, Syntax, and Vocabulary.

Year 3 to Year 7 Assessments

Year 3 assesses parts of speech and simple figurative language. Year 4 identifies text types and writer's point of view. Years 5 and 6 assess literary techniques and inferred meaning. Year 7 involves complex punctuation, rhetorical devices, and evaluating humour.

Year 8 to Year 11 Assessments

Years 8 and 9 assess clauses, modality, and authorial intent. Years 10 to 12 prepare students for final years with complex texts discussing abstract concepts and sophisticated language structures.
